I'm looking for good physically-small receiver to go with a set of bookshelf speakers. I'm not looking for top of the line stuff, I just want to plug my TV, game system, DVD, and an AUX input or several(!) for an iPod and my PC into it. Needs a radio tuner. Two speakers is enough and it doesn't need to do video switching.

We live in a small apartment and my wife doesn't like big electronics, so physical size matters a lot (and we don't need a lot of amplification or the neighbors would hate us!)

Thanks a lot! (And apologies if this is not the right place for this question, close it if so!)

Welcome Mike. How many speakers are you looking to connect? 2? and are you looking for the receiver to do video switching for the console, PC, and TV? – Rich Seller Feb 8 at 18:02
By the way I've edited your question so more of the question appears properly on the feeds and the home page. – Rich Seller Feb 8 at 18:04
Thanks Rich! I think two speakers (L and R) should be enough for now, and it doesn't need to do video switching. In fact, we have a combo TV/computer monitor to save space and I've already had to move the DVD player to a closet for now and we use the PC to play movies and CDs (to save more space ;-) So the only video to switch is to the video games, which I don't mind doing by hand. The TV speakers aren't very good though and I'd like to be able to listen to the iPod too when the PC is off as well as listen to the radio. I'll edit the question to indicate this. Thanks! – Mike Kale 2 mins ago – Mike Kale Feb 8 at 18:19

It might be a bit steep for your budget at around $1,200, but Denon do a cracking compact amp, the DRA-CX3. It has 4 inputs and a phone stage, and does radio too. I also think it looks good and it is compact for an amp at 300 x 80 x 341 mm (around 12" x 3" x 13.5").

You can get smaller amps, but it becomes difficult to physically fit all the connections on the back plate. As you can see the Denon is fairly packed.

Thanks vls! That is a nice looking amplifier -- a bit steep though for me. – Mike Kale Feb 13 at 4:51
If it costs too much, don't accept this answer. Do you have a budget in mind? There are cheaper options.. – vls Feb 13 at 16:40
