I have a CD that is pretty badly damaged, I'd like to repair it or copy the data off of it but it won't read properly. Are there any products I can use to repair the disk so it can be read again?

This mostly depends on how badly damaged the CD is. There are generally 2 levels of repair:

  1. Smudges/fingerprints: Apply some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and use a microfibre polyester cloth to clean it.
  2. Small abrasions/scratches: Use a mild abrasive solvent like Brasso and polish in a circular pattern.

Generally deep/wide scratches are harder to polish and may still obscure tracks. This type of damage is harder to recover data from.
